Wayfinding & Signage

Minneapolis Riverfront District Wayfinding, Signage

Creating a destination

A redeveloped downtown Riverfront District. A need for vehicle, parking, pedestrian, and identity gateway signage. Larsen conducted extensive research, including a review of city, state, county, and historical preservation codes and guidelines and input from stakeholders to inform their design. The wayfinding plan envisioned by Larsen reflects the industrial heritage of the area and draws on the district's centerpiece: the Stone Arch Railway Bridge, a pedestrian walkway with a breathtaking view of St. Anthony Falls and the downtown skyline. The new signage completes the final phase of redevelopment of an area where flour mills, warehouses, train stations and stores have been converted into condominiums, retails shops, and hotels.
