Larsen deepens talent pool
April 2008Larsen has added four new professionals in Minneapolis and three in California, filling important roles in design, interactive development, account service, and marketing.
In Minneapolis, Jim Madson, president of AIGA Minnesota, joins Larsen as Director of Business Development. Arnold Andres Porras joins as Interactive Designer, Jason Brierley joins as Account Executive, and Nick Richter joins as Interactive Developer.
In California, Mike Harding joins as Account Executive, and Wei Tien Pang and Akiko Ito join as contract designers.
Arnold Andres Porras speaks fluent Spanish, both Mike Harding and Wei Tien Pang speak fluent Mandarin Chinese, and Akiko Ito speaks fluent Japanese. Larsen is delighted to bring the additional expertise of these professionals to our clients.

Graphic Design USA recognized Tim Larsen for his recent AIGA Fellow Award: "In 1971, Tim Larsen got his start as a young graphic designer, working for one of the two major graphic design firms in Minneapolis. When he opened up his own design firm four years later, simply known as Larsen, he launched the next wave of companies that built the vibrant Minnesota design community we all know today."

Larsen Senior Writer John Andreini captured first place in the Answers.com Creative Writing Challenge with his original composition "The Shrieking of the Monkeys." The contest required Andreini to use (and link to) 10 words specified by Answers.com, including "fug," "horripilation," and "simian." John talks about his winning entry in this interview.

Tim Larsen honored with two prestigious awards

Larsen's president and founder will receive an AIGA Fellow Award from the Minnesota Chapter of AIGA for his significant contribution to the practice of design. The award will be announced at the AIGA Design Legends Gala in September in New York. Larsen will also receive a Distinguished Alumni Award from Minnesota State University Moorhead for his professional and civic contributions.

A win-win-win-win-win situation

Larsen projects took five awards at this year's annual competitions of the Minnesota chapters of AIGA and the Public Relations Society of America. Our SEMICON West 2006 invitation and 2006 holiday card for Applied Materials and signage for the Minneapolis Public Library and Guthrie Theater were stars of the AIGA Minnesota Design Show, while Larsen's 2005 annual report for St. Jude Medical earned a best-in-category PRSA award.

We recently teamed up with HOK Architecture and Architectural Alliance on the new TCF Bank stadium in the works at the University of Minnesota. Larsen is designing signage and graphics that Gopher fans will be sure to cheer.

The Larsen writing department recently captured four MarCom Creative awards for writing excellence, including a platinum award, the highest honor, for the Park Nicollet Major Gifts Campaign "Make it Better" brochure. Larsen won a gold writing award for the Starkey nFusion™ brochure, and two Larsen inSights e-newsletter articles took gold and honorable mention awards: "Humor in Communications: 6 Serious Tips" and "Visual Systems: Controlling What Was Once Left To Chance."
